The Big Bike Giveaway Fiesta 2011

Run by Third Place Communities Inc, the Community Bikes Program is a youth mentoring program where workers and volunteers restore old bicycles alongside young at-risk young people between 10-16 years old. The aim of the program is to help these young people in our community develop life skills, see positive changes in attitude and an increase in self-reliance. We believe by giving young people the opportunity to grow in these areas, we will be providing them with a chance to further their job opportunities, increase their self-esteem and contribute more effectively to society as a whole.

From 2009 – 2011 we have hosted a community event where all of the restored bikes (with helmets) are given away, which you can see photos & videos from the events on this blog.

A great video from 2010 as an example of what happens on the day – thanks to Blue Hat Design
